College to Host Smithsonian’s Voices and Votes: Democracy in America Exhibition in 2026

ATLANTA鈥擥eorgia Humanities is pleased to announce that six communities have been selected to host Voices and Votes: Democracy in America, a Smithsonian Institution traveling exhibition exploring the history and promise of democracy in the United States鈥攋ust in time for America鈥檚 250th anniversary.听

From April 2026 through January 2027,听Voices and Votes听will travel to听Eatonton, Hartwell, Cartersville, Mount Vernon, Brunswick,听and听Dawson,where each site will host the exhibition for six weeks. While in Brunswick, the exhibition will be located on the campus of the 海角社区, in the Southeast Georgia Conference Center.

Presented through the Smithsonian鈥檚 Museum on Main Street program, Voices and Votes is based on a major exhibition at the National Museum of American History and examines how Americans have engaged with the democratic process鈥攆rom revolution and suffrage to civil rights and civic participation today. The exhibition draws connections between past and present and encourages visitors to consider what democracy means in their own communities.

Georgia Humanities, in partnership with the Smithsonian Institution Traveling Exhibition Service, will work closely with each site to develop unique exhibit content that connects the national themes of Voices and Votes to local stories of civic life in Georgia. Each host community will also receive seed funding for public programming and educational activities, with opportunities for local fundraising and corporate sponsorship to deepen community investment and impact.

鈥淭he 250th anniversary is not only a chance to look back, but also an opportunity to consider how we each contribute to the ongoing story of democracy,鈥 said Mary Wearn, president of Georgia Humanities. 鈥淲e鈥檙e excited to partner with these six host sites to bring Voices and Votes and these important conversations to communities across Georgia.鈥

  • Mount Vernon:听听September 13 鈥 October 25, 2026
  • Brunswick: November 1 鈥 December 13, 2026
  • Dawson:听December 20, 2026 鈥 January 31, 2027
