Hundreds of students found new homes — albeit temporary — Friday at º£½ÇÉçÇø on move in day for the fall semester.

Upperclassmen helped the freshman get into their digs as parents and grandparents unloaded U-Haul trailers, pickups and sometimes hatchback cars stuffed with belongings,

Bill Hanks and the rest of his family moved his daughter Emily from Warner Robins. Move in day is often filled with sadness for parents, but Hanks saw reason for optimism.

“It’s a beautiful day. It’s the beginning of a brand new future,’’ he said.

The storm from the day before seemed to have left a cooler and less humid day for the families that started their work at 9 a.m.

“Start your future on a bright and beautiful day,’’ Hanks said.

Lily VanHouten’s family moved her into Mariners Village from Alamo.

“We worked 18 years to get her here,’’ her mother Mary Frances VanHouten said.

There was never any doubt she would come to Coastal Georgia, she said of her daughter.

“She’s a water baby,’’ and a college next to the ocean is perfect for her, Mary Frances VanHouten said.

Lily VanHouten is pursuing a degree in marine biology.

The college has a Sunday convocation planned and a rooftop cookout.

Classes begin Monday.
